Lice Treatment

First finding out that your child has head lice can be scary and very overwhelming. As a parent you naturally worry about the safety and health of your children. You may be asking yourself: can lice harm my child, will this spread to the rest of the family, do I have to throw my bedding away, how can I get rid of this quickly?

Remember that head lice are very common and are not a sign of bad parenting or poor hygiene. Anyone with hair can contract head lice. While they are quite the nuisance; they are not dangerous and they can be removed quickly with the right lice treatment.

Head Lice Treatment

Head lice are tiny wingless parasites that grasp onto hair strands and live off of small amounts of blood from the scalp. They are not harmful and do no carry disease. However, they can make your head incredibly itchy and make it difficult to sleep as they are more active at night.

Head lice are spread either by crawling from head to head or through bedding, clothing, brushes, or other personal items that have come in contact with an infested head.

When you discover lice on your child, immediately check the heads of everyone else in the household. You will be looking for bugs that are brown to tan in color and about the size of a sesame seed with six legs. Lice eggs that are clear to white in color and about the size of a poppy seed. Once head lice are identified, you should get a head lice treatment to end the infestation once and for all.

Lice Removal

Lice removal is essential! If you do not remove lice from the head and hair then they will not go away, the life cycle will continue endlessly until they are eliminated from the head.

Over-the-counter lice products used to be the number one go-to treatments. For decades this was the cheapest, quickest, and most effective form of lice removal, but times have changed. Head lice have built up a resistance to the chemicals contained in OTC products due to years of overuse.

Now in order to get rid of lice, you either need to use more of the chemical OTC products, which can be potentially harmful and not typically recommended, or use an alternative lice treatment void of chemicals.

Best Lice Treatment

People are now turning to natural lice treatment over chemical treatments. There are natural products that are designed to get rid of lice and nits with only one day of treatment. This is a quick and safe alternative to OTC head lice treatment. Lice cannot become resistant to the ingredients in natural products.

For natural alternatives we recommend ClearLice – we consider this the best lice treatment, but Licenex is also a great lice removal product. You can also opt for a nit picking service, which will come to your home and treat everyone that is infested. Here is a number to find lice removal services in your state: 1-833-headlice.
